Philosophy of Higher Education Administration

I am passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Building and cultivating a student-centered culture based on social justice is critical to a successful academic administration. Diversity of thought, economy, and culture in education are necessary to ensure all students have the same access to higher education and all students are treated equally and feel part of the educational community. Improving postsecondary outcomes for all students should be the top priority for higher education institutions. I believe in building a strong community with all stakeholders that align with the institution’s mission. This starts at the top with institutional leadership that drives innovative change and creates community bonds that inspire all students, staff, and faculty to expand and grow to be their best.

I believe in a student-focused shared governance model and that all people who work on campus can be effective educators. I try to foster an inclusive environment with the staff and intentionally hire people who bring something new to the table and enhance the student experience. I am a transformational leader who is passionate about higher education and instills this passion in my colleagues to inspire change. I am a hands-on leader that is adaptable, and I am committed to the betterment of the institution and lead by example.

My leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, allowing me to successfully juggle my responsibilities and give equal time and effort to each one. I motivate staff collaboration through shared values and a commitment to change. I encourage my staff to bring their ideas to the table, empowering them to be part of the solution. I hold weekly one-on-one meetings with my direct reports and an all staff meeting each month. Ensuring everyone feels engaged, included, and supported is essential to staying productive and ensures that all functional areas are aligned and serve our students in the best way possible. I inspire my staff to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow.

I believe in being proactive. Being prepared for potential issues allows you to control the problem rather than react. Developing robust relationships and maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders will enable me to understand their issues and concerns. I encourage faculty, staff, and students to come to me with their problems and develop solutions together to better the institution
